“Providing Women, Kept Men: Gender, generation and social reproduction
in the wake of the African HIV/AIDS epidemic,” a talk by Dr. Sanyu Mojola,
Assistant Professor of Sociology, CU-Boulder.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic is now an indelible part of sub-Saharan Africa. In
this presentation, Dr. Mojola will discuss relationships that have emerged
between older women and young men, and show how these partnerships have
been made possible by the HIV/AIDS epidemic whose primary victims have been
older men and younger women. She will consider the implications of these
relationships for thinking about gender, generation and social reproduction
in African societies. The analysis is based on fieldwork conducted among
the Luo, the most affected ethnic group in Kenya.
