ETHN credit abroad ~ Global Seminar South Africa in May ~ Mtg Wed Feb 1st at 4pm

Interest meeting next Wednesday, February 1st, at 4 P.M. In the Center for Community, room S350.  You can begin an application on the Study Abroad web site (studyabroad.colorado.edu)
The academic benefits of the course are:
1) an understanding of the parallel historical moments between the United States and South Africa
(our invited South African professors are keenly aware of the South African/U.S. comparison and speak quite
authoritatively about the similarities and differences);
2)  entering into the South African context by residing in the black township SoWeTo (previous students considered
this portion of the course to be an exceptionally important part of their experiences);
3)  engaging in social and community development movements while in South Africa and then returning
to the United States to apply many of the learned practices;
4)  developing a deep understanding of an African philosophical approach that holds tremendous promise
for productive intercultural relations and processes in the United States.
