Advanced Topics in Gender and Sexuality Studies:
Gender and Disaster
Tuesdays, 5-7:30pm • HALE 240
This interdisciplinary course introduces students to the nexus of gender and disaster. Using an intersectional perspective, the course examines gender inequalities at each phase of the disaster cycle with particular attention to women’s vulnerability and resilience. In addition to highlighting women’s experiences in disaster, this course will also address social processes involving men and the construction of masculinity. Specific attention is given to the unequal social consequences of disaster in both U.S. and global contexts.
