UndocuNation Event to Empower Communities through Art, Feb 22-23rd

UndocuNation is a groundbreaking cultural event that brings artists from different racial and immigrant backgrounds, and documentation statuses to share their art and promote humane immigration policy. The event is organized in various cities by CultureStrike and Center for New Community.  This powerful event celebrates and promotes artists who are building a movement for pro-immigrant measures and the public will for humane solutions to address immigration.

UndocuNation is not just another music and arts festival. Our aim is to empower our communities through art, and to showcase the transformative power of culture, particularly when it relates to the humanity of migrants. Alongside the main event there will also be a day of workshops led by participating artists. The workshops focus on writing, poster-making, and creative action that teach local youth, organizers, and artists, how to use art as a tool of empowerment.

We have already held two highly successful UndocuNation events in San Francisco and Charlotte, which took place during the Democratic National Convention. Both featured music, art, performance, poetry, dance, and local organizations. Past artists and presenters include Jasiri X (emcee), Emory Douglas (former Minister of Culture of the Black Panther Party), Jeff Chang (acclaimed author), Julio Salgado (undocumented visual artist), Los Rakas (hip hop band), Favianna Rodriguez (artist) , Daniel Alarcon (novelist), Felipe Baeza (undocumented visual artist), Yosimar Reyes (undocumented poet), and Sacrificial Poets (poetry group).

We are hoping you can be part of UndocuNation Denver ‘13! We have planned the event for February 22-23, 2013 and we expect a turnout of 300+.

Thank you and have a great day,

UndocuNation organizers.
