Are you still looking for a job for next year? Would you like to do something more than waiting tables, folding clothes, or making coffee? Do you want to make a positive impact on the world?
City Year is an education-focused non-profit that is currently hiring young adults, aged 17-24, to spend one academic year in challenge-rich schools across the country and serve as tutors, mentors, and role-models to students. These idealists, or corps members, are placed on team in a school where they will spend every day engaging with students both in the classroom and after school from a near-peer perspective to help keep them in school and on track to graduate.
The program is a ten-month commitment, and during that time corps members will receive extensive leadership training, professional development, networking opportunities, and career support. Other benefits include a living stipend, health insurance, federal student loan forbearance (on most federal loans), food stamp eligibility, and a $5,550 Segal Award that can be used towards more education or student debt. City Year also partners with over 70 university programs that offer 25%-100% tuition to City Year alumni, and over 100 different university programs that will match the Segal Award.
Applications are online at www.cityyear.org, and will be accepted on a rolling admissions basis so the sooner you apply, the better.
Unfortunately, the Denver site will not be accepting any more applications, but there are 23 other sites that will be, so check them out!
